LSE lineman Trevino is second Husker walk-on commit in as many days – Lincoln Journal Star

The bones of Nebraska’s 2020 walk-on class are already starting to form.

Lincoln Southeast offensive lineman Xavier Trevino announced Saturday night that he planned on walking on with the Huskers, spurning scholarship offers from Southwest Missouri State, Lindenwood, Augustana and others in order for the chance to play for NU.

“Something special is happening here, and I can’t wait to represent my state,” he wrote on Twitter while announcing his intentions. “I’ve worked so hard for this, and can’t wait to work even harder.”

Trevino just spent Friday on campus at Nebraska’s recruiting barbecue.

“All the coaches make me feel like family, especially (offensive line coach Greg Austin),” Trevino wrote. “The passion he has for me not only as a player, but a man is something I want to spend my college years with and invest all my time into.”

Trevino earned All-City honors and honorable mention all-state from the Journal Star during his junior year. He is listed at 6-foot-2 and 285 pounds.

Trevino is the second walk-on verbal commitment in as many days, following Norris standout Ashton Hausmann, who pulled the trigger on the spot during Friday’s barbecue when he was pulled into Scott Frost’s office and told the staff wanted him to walk on.
