TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. – Traverse City didn’t wait around to win a championship.
Playing for the first time this year in the Northwoods League, the Spitters knocked off Eau Claire 3-2 in the league’s championship game on Saturday. They did it in front of 4,600 fans at Pit Spitters Park.
Traverse City got behind early, continually leaving runners on base. But the Spitters finally got one run in the fourth inning, then came through with two dramatic ones in the bottom of the ninth to win it.
Eau Claire outhit Traverse City 11-5 but hurt itself with four errors. The Spitters were error-free.
