Before landing at LSU as his transfer destination, former Ohio State quarterback Joe Burrow expressed interest in attending Nebraska — twice — but was told he was not good enough.
“I’ve been told I wasn’t good enough since recruiting,” Burrow told Tom Rinaldi during ESPN’s College GameDay interview Saturday. “I had one offer after my junior year of high school and it was my dad’s (Ohio) team. I wanted to go to Nebraska, they told me I wasn’t good enough. And Ohio State was really my only big-time offer.”
On the verge of the 2019 Heisman Trophy with LSU (13-0) crowned SEC champions and the No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff, Burrow’s revenge tour dates back to recruiting.
“I remember all the recruiters’ names that told me no,” Burrow said. “I remember all of the Elite 11 guys that got chosen over me. So I remember all that stuff. I keep a mental log of it. I think that’s just who I am.”
The fifth-year senior quarterback and second-year LSU starter transferred out of Ohio State in May 2018, but was linked to Cincinnati and Nebraska before ending up with the Tigers.
Burrow was a four-star recruit from The Plains (Ohio) Athens as the 247Sports Composite’s No. 280 overall prospect, No. 8 dual-threat quarterback and No. 11 player in the state for the 2015 class.
